Naveen Meena

Backpacking Begins: Overnight Bus to Cappadocia

Bayram, also known as Eid, is a significant religious festival celebrated. As the Bayram break began, I set off on a thrilling backpacking adventure. I hopped on an overnight bus from Istanbul, eagerly anticipating my first destination: the enchanting region of Cappadocia. The overnight journey allowed me to wake up amidst the unique landscapes that Cappadocia is renowned for, a surreal sight that was only a taste of the wonders to come.

Exploring Goreme: Balloons, ATVs, and Hitchhiking

Upon arriving in Cappadocia, I found myself in the captivating town of Goreme. The ethereal landscapes dotted with fairy chimneys and ancient cave dwellings were nothing short of awe-inspiring. I couldn't resist the opportunity to soar above this magical realm in a hot air balloon, witnessing the breathtaking sunrise from high above the clouds. The panoramic view of the otherworldly landscape was a moment I'll treasure forever.

To further immerse myself in the natural beauty of the region, I embarked on an exhilarating ATV tour. Racing through the valleys and exploring hidden trails was an adrenaline-filled adventure that brought me even closer to the unique geology and history of Cappadocia.

In a delightful twist of fate, I met an Indian family during my travels and decided to embark on a hitchhiking adventure with them. Sharing stories, laughter, and a sense of adventure, we traversed the scenic routes, embracing the spontaneity and camaraderie that comes with exploring the unknown.

Journey to Antalya: Ancient Ruins and Unforgettable Host

After bidding farewell to Cappadocia, I boarded another overnight bus, this time headed for the beautiful coastal city of Antalya. I was welcomed by an amazing host who graciously shared their local knowledge and hospitality. Together, we explored the remarkable ruins of Termessos, a hidden gem nestled in the Taurus Mountains. The ancient city, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, offered a glimpse into Turkey's rich history and left me in awe of the architectural marvels that once stood tall.

Pamukkale's Ancient Splendor

Continuing my journey, I ventured to the mesmerizing natural wonder of Pamukkale. The terraces of white mineral-rich pools cascading down the hillside were a sight to behold. I marveled at the ancient city of Hierapolis, exploring its well-preserved ruins, including the grand theater and the fascinating necropolis. The therapeutic hot springs offered a rejuvenating experience, allowing me to soak in the tranquility and magnificence of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Return to Istanbul: Reflecting on a Memorable Journey

As my backpacking adventure came to an end, I made my way back to Istanbul, reflecting on the incredible experiences and lifelong memories I had created. From the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia to the ancient wonders of Antalya and Pamukkale, Turkey had captured my heart with its diverse and captivating beauty.
